Put up more poster areas for partylist groups, COMELEC urged

Monday, February 19th, 2007

The Kabataan Partylist today made an appeal to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to put up more poster areas for partylist groups.

“COMELEC should give more consideration to partylist groups and put up more poster areas to accommodate marginalized political parties and organizations,” Kabataan Partylist president Raymond Palatino said.

“COMELEC’s common poster areas are inadequate and mostly are inaccessible from public view. Many of the identified poster walls are yet to be constructed or were not designed for such purpose. We are even appalled to discover that there are designated poster areas which are supposed to be present in non-existent streets or places such as the basketball court along Quirino Highway in Novaliches proper which was already transformed into an open park few years ago.”

MILITANT student and youth organizations nationwide are gearing for a boycott of classes in Metro Manila and key cities across the country on Feb. 22 to protest the new round of tuition and other school fee increases.

“Tuition and other fee increases in these times of economic hardship and poverty are clearly uncalled for. These only make college education more elusive to young Filipinos,” Kabataan Party-list president Raymond Palatino said in a statement.

Activist lover

WE rode the same bus when we were still in grade school. She was always neat, prim and prepared for school, while I was always late and drowsy. Her brother was the laughable bully in our community church boys’ group.

It was in college that I came to know her again. I was a sensational kid from the mighty campus of Diliman and she was the loudmouth of that old school along Padre Faura.

We exchanged furtive glances during the anti-Estrada rallies in 1999. The most memorable was the mammoth gathering on Ayala Avenue in August. I was with visiting Taiwanese students and she was the head of their school delegation. It could have been the heavy downpour or something else, but it was on that fateful day when I realized that I was smitten with the girl who used to mock me in elementary school.
