RP students should study ‘campaigning’

The Kabataan Party today proposed for the inclusion of campaigning on the school curriculum to further encourage young Filipinos to become active citizens and engage in communities and politics.

“The youth are the future leaders of this nation and our educational system should teach them how to effectively influence decisions that affect their lives and make their voices heard,” Kabataan Party president Raymond Palatino said.

“Teaching students how to campaign, lobby decision makers and communicate efficiently will encourage active involvement among the youth in democratic processes and civic affairs and effectively inculcate the values of patriotism and social responsibility,” he emphasized.

Palatino said through the inclusion of campaigning in the school curriculum, education officials and the governments will help encourage the future generation to challenge those in power and contribute to policy-making and implementation.

He added that the proposal not only empowers the youth but also helps the government to be more responsive to the needs of the people.

“This proposal should be viewed positively and not as a plan to develop more dissidents. An informed and active citizenry should always be seen as an important partner of a government in steering the country towards progress and development,” Palatino pointed out.
